Grandfather Mountain
Grandfather Mountain is a
must see as it is the
highest peak in the Blue
Ridge Mountain range and
perhaps one of the best
known attractions in the
High Country! Always a
family favorite, you and
your loved ones can spend
the day on the mountain
enjoying the mile-high
swinging bridge, the animal
habitats and the great
hiking trails you’ll find
atop Grandfather. With
excellent places to picnic,
camp and hike, you’ll never
run out of fun things to do.
Also atop Grandfather
Mountain is the
Grandfather museum which
features artifacts and
exhibits on the Cherokee
Indians and other important
facts about the history of
the area.
Linville Caverns
Linville Caverns are one of
the best attractions in
Linville and simply a must
see for anyone enjoying a
day in the region. Take a
tour through the mysterious
underground caves, formed by
limestone over the years,
and go through the narrow
passageways to view the
stalactites and stalagmites.
Linville Falls Linville Falls marks the
beginning of the Linville
Gorge, an area formed by the
Linville River and features
a gorgeous waterfall that
flows off a stunning 45 foot
drop-off. Linville Falls is
owned by the National Park
Service and they operate a
visitor’s center and the
trails that lead to the
views of the falls.
Currently there are 4
trails leading to overlooks
where you can enjoy views of the falls. Linville
Falls are located at mile
post 316.3 on the Blue Ridge
Parkway, north of where US
221 crosses the Parkway and
south of where NC 181
crosses the
Parkway.
Linville Gorge Wilderness
Area
The Linville Gorge
Wilderness area is the third
largest wilderness area in
North Carolina, comprising
11,876 acres around the
Linville River. Camping,
hiking and rock climbing are
all permitted in the area
and are popular weekend and
getaway activities for those
who find themselves in the
area.
